The Respiratory System (Lung Illustrations)
The Respiratory System (Lung Illustrations) portfolio showcases illustrations of the respiratory system, which includes the parts of the body that are involved in breathing.
The respiratory system includes the mouth, nose, nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx (voice box), trachea (windpipe), bronchial tree, and lungs. The lungs are the primary organs of the respiratory system and are located on either side of the heart within the chest cavity. The right lung is made up of three lobes while the left lung has two. When you inhale, air travels through your trachea to the bronchi and bronchioles, ending up in the alveoli or air sacs for the exchange of gases. Oxygen is absorbed into the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide is released into the alveoli from the bloodstream through a network of capillaries surrounding the alveoli.
